About the destination

Kerala, India· India

Kerala is India's emerald coast — a serene stretch of backwaters, spice plantations, and mist-covered hill stations. Houseboat cruises on Alleppey's canals, Ayurvedic wellness retreats, wildlife safaris in Periyar, and the dramatic beaches of Varkala create an itinerary that balances adventure with deep relaxation. The state's cuisine, warm locals, and lush tropical landscape make it endlessly inviting.

Itinerary

How the journey unfolds

Day by day, the route balances movement, comfort, local moments, and enough breathing room to actually enjoy the trip.

Arrive at Cochin International Airport, where your WishTrailz representative will be waiting to greet you. Transfer to your accommodation in the heart of Kochi and complete check-in formalities. Spend the rest of your day at leisure — wander through the atmospheric lanes of Fort Kochi, admire the iconic Chinese fishing nets at the waterfront, or simply settle in over a cup of freshly brewed Kerala chai. Overnight in Cochin.

After a hearty breakfast, check out and begin the breathtaking drive into the Western Ghats toward Munnar. En route, pause at the spectacular twin waterfalls — Cheeyappara and Valara — tumbling powerfully down granite rock faces amid lush jungle. As the road climbs higher, the air turns cool and crisp, and the landscape shifts into a sweeping panorama of emerald tea gardens stretching to the horizon. Arrive in Munnar and check in. The evening is yours — explore the town's small market, pick up premium Munnar tea and spice blends, or simply sip your tea watching the mist roll over the hills. Overnight in Munnar.

Your full day in Munnar begins with an early start to make the most of what the highlands have to offer. Head to Eravikulam National Park — a UNESCO-protected biosphere reserve and the only home of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, a rare mountain goat found nowhere else on Earth. The park's sweeping grasslands and shola forests are spectacular. Later, visit the scenic Mattupetty Dam — a picturesque reservoir tucked between forested hills where you can enjoy views, a short boat ride, or simply breathe in the mountain air. In the afternoon, stroll through Old Munnar Town's vibrant market lanes — where you'll find fresh cardamom, pepper, and tea sold straight from the estates. Return for a relaxed evening at leisure. Overnight in Munnar.

After breakfast, check out of your Munnar accommodation and drive down through the winding hills toward Alleppey (Alappuzha) — Kerala's legendary backwater town, lovingly called the 'Venice of the East'. Arrive and check in. Spend the afternoon drifting along the tranquil canal-side promenade, watching traditional country boats glide past swaying coconut palms reflected in the still water. Sample fresh Kerala seafood at a local eatery or sit quietly by the water and let the peace of the backwaters wash over you. Overnight in Alleppey.

Enjoy your final breakfast in Alleppey. Check out and transfer to the nearest airport or railway station for your onward journey home. As you leave, carry with you the scent of fresh cardamom from the Munnar markets, the image of Nilgiri Tahr on the misty ridgeline, and the quiet rhythm of the backwaters at dusk. Kerala has a way of staying with you. Until next time — safe travels!
